BIOGRAFÍA:
Pintor español nacido en Tomelloso, Ciudad Real. Se formó en un principio junto a su tío Antonio López Torres, también pintor. Se lo ha considerado como el padre de la escuela hiperrealista madrileña, estilo que ha influido en artistas como Toral o Villaseñor. Se formó tambien junto a su tío, también pintor.
En él ejerció notable influencia la obra de Salvador Dalí de quien toma el gusto acusado por la realidad y el predominio del dibujo sobre la pintura. Entre 1950 y 1955 realizó estudios de pintura en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de Madrid. Finalizados los mismos, alternó su trabajo entre Tomelloso y Madrid. realizó sus primeras exposiciones individuales (entre 1957 y 1961).
Contrajo matrimonio con la pintora María Moreno en 1961 tuvo dos hijas: María y Carmen. Entre 1964 y 1969 Antonio López se dedicó a impartir lecciones de preparación sobre el color en la Real Academia de San Fernando donde era profesor encargado de la Cátedra de Preparatorio de Colorido. Su obra, inscrita dentro del hiperrealismo, ha sido adaptada al cine por el director cinematográfico Víctor Erice en el film titulado El sol del membrillo (1992). La temporalidad y el deterioro de lo material son notas que definen su estilo hiperrealista. En enero de 1993 es nombrado miembro de número de la madrileña Real Academia de San Fernando. Antonio López es un artista que busca, dentro de la realidad que le rodea, los aspectos más cotidianos tratados con un enorme detallismo fotográfico como lo ejemplifica su obra titulada Cuarto de baño. Sus obras: "Los novios" (1955), "Cuarto de baño" (1969) y "La Gran Vía" (1974 - 1981)- hasta lo escultórico -en donde está representado "Hombre y mujer" (1968)-. También se destacan "Madrid desde Torres Blancas" (1982), retratos de sus propios familiares, elementos de la naturaleza, "Membrillos y granados". retratos de sus propios familiares, Los novios, objetos de uso cotidiano, Taza de water y ventana, o simplemente elementos de la naturaleza, Membrillos y granados. Los objetos y los sucesos de la vida ordinaria son los que destacan como los protagonistas de sus cuadros. Está considerado como el padre de la escuela hiperrealista madrileña y su estilo ha influido en artistas como Toral o Villaseñor.
