Se dedicó desde muy joven a la Literatura y al Arte. Estudió, además, dibujo y grabado. Blake escribía poesías y los imprimía, ilustrándolos con grabados que él mismo realizaba. Blake pensaba que los libros debían ser semejantes a los manuscritos medievales en los que el texto y la ilustración aparecían en la misma página. Dentro de sus primeras obras destacan Los Cantos de la Inocencia de 1789, el Matrimonio del Cielo y el Infierno de 1793 y los Cantos de la Experiencia de 1794. Blake ilustró también obras de otros autores como "Pensamientos Nocturnos", de E. Young, de 1797, y la Divina Comedia, de Dante. Blake tenía una mente muy imaginativa y con una gran capacidad para crear sueños, en donde aparecían otros mundos sacados de sus lecturas sobre la Antigüedad. Blake llegó a incluir en sus textos fragmentos de obras de Shakespeare y de Dante. Las figuras musculosas de Miguel Angel influyeron en su estilo, sin embargo , se diferencia de este en que Blake marca mucho las líneas y los cuerpos tienen una gran flexibilidad y movimiento.

He dedicated himself from very young to the Literature and to the Art. He studied, besides, drawing and engraving. Blake was writing poetries and was printing them, illustrating them with engravings than he he was realizing same. Blake was thinking that the books should have been alike to the medieval manuscripts that the text and the illustration were appearing in the same page in. Within his first works they emphasize The Songs of Innocence of 1789, the Marriage of Heaven and the Hell of 1793 and the Songs of Experience of 1794. Blake illustrated also works of another authors like Nighttime, E Thoughts. Young, of 1797, and the Divine Comedy, of Dante. Blake was having a very imaginative mind and with a great capability to create dreams, in where were appearing another worlds served the ball his readings on the Antique. Blake got to including in his texts fragments of Shakespearian and Dante works. Muscular Michuel Angelo's figures influenced his style, however, Blake varies from this whereon mark lines very much and the bodies have a great flexibility and movement
